A man was convicted in a double homicide and sentenced to life in prison聽all in the same day.
According to the Marshall County District Attorney鈥檚 Office, Kevon Yenovi Wiliams was found guilty Wednesday of murdering Elias Gaspar Lopez and Enrique F. Rodrigues Alvarado at a Guntersville Taco Bell in 2021.
During the five-day trial, the DA's office says numerous witnesses and exhibits proved Williams was an active drug dealer. After learning his associates had been ripped off, the DA's office says Williams devised a plan to set up the victims in this case by posing as someone interested in buying drugs. Through multiple witness accounts and Snapchat data, the State ultimately proved Williams' intent to rob and murder the victims.
Williams was convicted of all five capital murder offenses, which include murder of two or more persons, murder of Elias Gaspar Escobar Lopez during robbery, murder of Enrique F. Rodrigues Alvarado during robbery, and murder by or through a deadly weapon used upon a victim inside a vehicle. Williams was also convicted of criminal conspiracy to commit robbery.
Although this was a capital murder case, the DA鈥檚 office says the State chose not to pursue the death penalty in this case. He was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole for the capital murder offenses as well as 20 years for the conspiracy to commit robbery charge.聽
