The City of Hartselle says a firetruck returning from a fire call left the roadway and hit an unoccupied house Wednesday afternoon.
Hartselle City officials say the driver of the firetruck experienced a medical emergency and lost control of the truck. They say the firetruck then veered into oncoming traffic on Highway 36 West in front of the Dollar General located nearby.
According to the City of Hartselle, the firefighter in the passenger seat was able to grab the steering wheel and get the vehicle out of oncoming traffic. The firetruck then left the roadway on the west bound side and struck the corner of an unoccupied house before continuing on and striking a large pine tree located behind the house.
Officials say both firefighters were taken to the hospital for treatment but no serious injuries were reported. According to the City of Hartselle, the driver of the firetruck is undergoing medical exams and the firefighter in the passenger seat is being treated for a cut on his hand.
