From appearing on SportsCenter to catching a touchdown pass against Florida State, Takairee Kenebrew has had a remarkable college career. Due to medical redshirts and the COVID year, he’s currently playing his seventh season at North Alabama.Ìý
“You’re going to hear a whole lot of old jokes,†the wide receiver said. “But they don’t understand, with age comes knowledge.â€Ìý
Kenebrew is the school’s all-time leader in receiving touchdowns, and at this point he views himself as both a player and coach. At 24 years old, he’s the Lions’ only player born in the 1990s.Ìý
“90s babies have always been known as the best generation,†Kenebrew said. “So, I love it.â€Ìý
Kenebrew’s seven-year career has allowed for both of his daughters to watch him play college football.Ìý
“When I came in as a freshman, my first one was on the way but not here yet,†he said. “You would not recognize me now. You would be like, ‘No way are these the same people.’ They really made me understand that every moment of life is precious.â€Ìý
Kenebrew will try to soak up every moment of his final season in Florence. Yes, he promises this will be his final college season.Ìý
“I don’t care what coach (Brent) Dearmon finds,†Kenebrew joked. “I don’t care what he asks me. No recruiting strategy could get me for an eighth season.â€Ìý
If his next act is anything like this one, it should be thrilling to watch unfold.Ìý
“I want to give myself a great chance to go play at the next level,†he said. “I feel like I’ve put myself in a position most definitely to have a chance, as long as I keep doing everything I’m supposed to do. I still have that accounting degree in my back pocket, so that is not my only option, but I’d love to keep playing football as long as I can.â€Ìý
